Building the mght Engineering Publication

By mght.io•

Welcome to the Journal

As software engineers, we often accumulate notes, architectural explorations, and hard-earned production lessons across disconnected tools. This platform is designed to unify that body of work into a cohesive, high-performance publication.

The visual and typographic foundation is inspired by Meta AI Research (research.meta.ai), leveraging Meta's open-source Astryx and StyleX design principles: crisp neutral color palettes, disciplined typography tokens, high-density layouts, and zero visual bloat.

Architecture Highlights

  1. Next.js 15 App Router & Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR): Public article pages are statically generated with an ISR micro-cache tier. Even during severe traffic surges, the origin VPS remains whisper quiet.

  2. Decoupled Auth via Ory Kratos: Authentication runs as an isolated identity service with multi-factor assurance (AAL2), passkeys, and social identity federation. Passwords are eliminated in favor of hardened cryptographic factors.

  3. SQLite in Write-Ahead Logging (WAL) Mode: For a single-author technical publication, SQLite WAL mode eliminates the operational memory overhead of heavyweight databases while providing single-digit millisecond query latency.

  4. Bi-Directional Authoring Workflow: Write locally in standard Markdown and push via blog-sync CLI, or compose interactively in the web dashboard with split-pane live previews.

# Publish from the comfort of your local terminal
